Workshops exploring effective interventions for back health
How interventions for back pain, including but not limited to wearable devices, can be integrated and personalised to the individual.
Overview
In July 2023, we hosted two co-design workshops. One at Hong Kong Polytechnic University with a group of researchers working on a garment for people with scoliosis, and another at the DeSForm conference. The workshops aimed to explore how we could use technologies to design personalised and effective interventions for spine health.
The workshop benefited from a diverse group of multidisciplinary attendees, including textile and computer science specialists, material specialists, interaction design experts, workers with back pain and more.
Four workshop activities were designed for a variety of qualitative data streams to be captured via note-taking, workshop templates and audio-visual recordings. Each response is akin to a packet of information within which opinion, suggestion, meaning, vision and much more are expressed. Thematic analysis, used mainly in quantitative data scanning, was used to make a rapid categorisation of the data sets.
