Workshops exploring effective interventions for spine health
How interventions of back pain including but not limited to wearable devices can be integrated and personalised to the individual.
Overview
In July 2023, we hosted two co-design workshops. One at Hong Kong Polytechnic University with a group of researchers who work on a garment for people with scoliosis and another at the DeSForm conference. The aim of the workshops was to explore how we could use technologies to design personalised and effective interventions for spine health.
The workshop benefitted from a diverse group of multidisciplinary attendees, including textile and computer science specialists, material specialities, interaction design experts, workers with back pain and more.
Four workshop activities were designed for a variety of qualitative data streams to be captured via note-taking, workshop templates and audio-visual recordings. Each response is akin to a packet of information within which opinion, suggestion, meaning, vision and much more are expressed. Thematic analysis, used mainly in quantitative data scanning, was used to make a rapid categorisation of the data sets.
